Sass & Bide Internship – Yara Abdellatif

At last year’s MFI Graduate Parade and Cocktail Party, it was announced that iconic label Sass & Bide would be providing an internship to MFI’s Student of the Year 2017.

MFI would like to thank Sass & Bide for the amazing opportunity that was awarded to Yara Abdellif and we congratulate Yara once again for winning the esteemed title of Student of the Year.

The Australian label Sass & Bide is known for being at the forefront of women’s designer fashion with its highly creative designs, innovative style, and signature embellishment. With almost two decades of success in the industry, the internship with Sass & Bide provided an opportunity for our graduate to experience what it would be like to work for an established, well known fashion label.

In February this year, Yara started her adventure and flew to Sass & Bide H.Q. in Sydney for the month-long internship.  The opportunities to learn from the label and gain invaluable experience was abundant. Yara was able to work closely with the design team; assisting with their seasonal colour palette and in-store visual merchandising, as well as attending design meetings, researching from briefs, offering ideas to graphic designers, sourcing fabrics, and so much more.

Some of her highlights; working with great and talented people, the stimulating and fun work environment and being able to gain an insight into their processes and the inner workings of the industry.

The design team at Sass & Bide were also thrilled to have Yara. They were impressed with her skills and knowledge, expressing that “[Yara] showed excellent computer design skills, garment construction, draping, and sketching.”

Overall it was a positive experience for both host company and student and MFI is grateful to Sass & Bide for supporting it’s Student Of the Year in 2017.

We have heard that the Winter Collection “Electric Feels PF18” is amazing and we cannot wait to see it in stores and online in early April. For more information and to view their latest styles go to
