COURSE INFORMATION

The Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising course covers the skills and knowledge required to work as assistant designers, assistant fashion graphic designers, and assistant specialist production technicians, such as patternmakers and sewing machinists, who support design and production within the clothing and fashion industry.

 

This qualification includes design outcomes which build on technical production skills and knowledge, to provide a basis for career progression to design, construction and pattern technician roles.

 

This course includes advanced pattern making methods with a focus on commercial and made to measure production and a higher level of computer aided design and illustration.

CERTIFICATION

To be awarded the MST40516 Certificate IV in Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising, competency must be achieved in twenty-five (25) units of competency consisting of:

  • Seven (7) core units of competency
  • Eighteen (18) elective units of competency
*Note: Two (2) extra units have been included in MFI’s program.

CERTIFICATION

COURSE OUTLINE

This qualification combines advanced pattern making, advanced garment construction, computer aided design and illustration and bespoke production.

ASSESSMENT

Assessment requires competence in units that align to all assignments, set tasks and projects. In order to develop the knowledge and skills to successfully complete the course, students are required to be punctual and encouraged to attend all classes.

  • MST30816 Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology

  • Commencement of MST50116 Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising (MFI Design Stream).

  • Student Technical Workbooks:

    • Couture and Advanced Couture Techniques – $77 purchased at MFI
