ENQUIRE/ENROL

The Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology provides the skills and knowledge required to work in applied design and production roles within the clothing and fashion industry.

 

This qualification is suitable for workers producing fashion products where a basic understanding of design, pattern making and sewing skills for specialist machinists are required. It’s also suitable for support roles in patternmaking and production of digitally printed and embroidered fabrics and garments.

 

In class students will gain strong underpinning skills in design and production and the knowledge and skills obtained are sufficient to transition into more advanced subjects and higher level units of competency. It is a great beginner course to foster creative and technical skills.

CERTIFICATION

To be awarded the MST30816 Certificate III in Applied Fashion Design and Technology, competency must be achieved in nineteen (19) units of competency, consisting of:

  • Four (4) core units of competency
  • Fifteen (15) elective units of competency

COURSE OUTLINE

This qualification combines pattern making, garment construction, fashion design, and computer aided design and illustration.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment requires competence in units that align to all assignments, set tasks and projects. In order to develop knowledge and skills to successfully complete the course, students are required to be punctual and encouraged to attend all classes.

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL

  • Approx $900+ (costs will vary depending on quality of accessories and quantity of fabric purchased)
  • Current edition of Adobe Creative Suite software package or access to Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Personal Laptop required (maximum two years old)
  • Student Technical Workbook
    • Pattern Making and Garment Construction – $55 purchased at MFI

DURATION

  • Twelve months
  • Four days per week of face-to-face delivery/assessment
  • Thirteen hours per week of self-directed learning
